Permits Foundation works with European Parliament on intra corporate transfers
14 October 2011Over the past 12 months, Permits Foundation has been writing to and meeting with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to build support for two crucial amendments to the proposed Directive on intra-corporate transfers (ICTs).
Without these amendments, there is no assurance that family members of ICTs will be allowed to work. This leaves families in a difficult position and some choose not to take up an assignment. The result is neither beneficial for individuals nor the EU economy.
In recent weeks, several MEPs have taken on board Permits Foundation’s suggested improvements. They have submitted amendments to a European Parliament Report that, if adopted, could allow family members to take employment or self employment for the same duration as the ICT. In addition, we could also see family residence permits processed at the same time as the transferee. Permits Foundation will continue to lobby for cross-party support ahead of the European Parliament vote due to take place late 2011 or early 2012.
